What is Art Therapy?

“Art Therapy is an integrative mental health and human services profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.”

– Official definition from The American Art Therapy Association, a not-for-profit, professional and educational organization dedicated to the growth and development of the art therapy profession.  (www.arttherapy.org)

What is Mindfulness?

Sometimes referred to as Shamatha Meditation, Mindfulness is a way of exploring the mind and developing new relationships with it. According to David Nichtern, a senior Buddhist teacher, meditation guide and Emmy award winning composer and musician, mindfulness can lead a practitioner away from constrictive, negative habits and toward mental strength, clarity and stability. Mindfulness, or awareness, cultivates curiosity of the self and environs.

What is Yoga?

The word “yoga” translates from Sanskrit as Union: the union of our mind, spirit and body through awareness in breath and movement. Approaches to the practice of yoga are diverse; some find ways to manipulate bodies into seemingly impossible curves and angles, while others lay questionably awake in quiet repose. All approaches however have the same goal: to create connection and integration of the Self.
